Education

MDHA promotes education to guarantee the future of our hunting heritage in Minnesota.

  • Each year MDHA chapters provide nearly $100,000 in scholarships to MDHA Forkhorn Camps across the state which provide outdoor and hunting education for nearly 700 youth annually.
  • MDHA promotes private land wildlife management education through our Land Management Program.
  • MDHA promotes good sportsmanship, hunting ethics and safe hunting practices. Each year, along with the MN DNR and T.I.P., MDHA awards the Ethics Award to one adult and one youth who exhibit ethical hunting behavior.
  • MDHA chapters contribute tens of thousands of dollars each year to support Firearms Safety Training, 4-H Shooting Sports, Jamie Tennison Fund, Youth Field Days, National Archery in the Schools Program, Large Mammal Curriculum and more.
  • MDHA's quarterly "Whitetales" magazine features unique "how-to" hunting, research and informational articles.

Forkhorn Camps

Minnesota is a state rich in natural resources, but the greatest of our resources is our children. The Minnesota Deer Hunters Association believes that educating hunters is key to perpetuating Minnesota's outdoor heritage and that the best tool of wildlife and ecosystem education is instilling a greater appreciation for our natural resources in our children. MDHA's method is Forkhorn Youth Summer Camps.

Jamie Tennison Program
October 15, 1992 was a typical fall day in northern Minnesota.  But to the Jim Tennison family, this day would turn out to be anything but typical. - This program is designed to teach kids valuable knowledge on using a compass.

MN Archery in the Schools Program
MDHA is a proud supporter of the MN Archery in the Schools Program.  This program promotes archery education in the classroom with an education curriculum entitled " On Target for Life."

Large Mammal Curriculum
A Course for Environmental Agricultural Education is designed as a teaching guide to assist teachers of agriculture, horticulture, agribusiness, agri-science, natural resources management and environmental education in providing activity oriented instruction on wildlife management.

MDHA chapters purchase Large Mammal Curriculum Boxes for donation to local schools for teaching youth about Minnesota's various wildlife and the role that hunting plays. Contact you local chapter or the MDHA State Office for more information.

Private Land Deer Management Guide
MDHA has developed a Private Land Deer Management Guide for its members with a simplistic approach to private land deer management to help you and your neighbors find common ground for cooperative deer herd management.

Additional Educational Programs
MDHA also offers various seminars and educational tools to educate hunters on various issues such as CWD, Bovine TB, Land Management, Food Plot Management, Field Dressing and much more.  MDHA strives to keep our members updated on any such issue in regards to deer or deer hunting that come about.

Below is a sample clip of the field dressing portion of our educational Field Dressing & Butchering Whitetail Deer DVD.  Complete DVD's are available for purchase from the MDHA State Office for $19.95 (plus S&H). To order your copy, click here!
