The Minnesota Deer Hunters Association is committed to preserving our hunting heritage, promoting habitat education as well as building and protecting habitat to benefit deer and deer hunters in Minnesota. MDHA brings people together who share a common interest in the stewardship of Minnesota’s resources, with opportunities for involvement in local chapters, events, partnerships, and networking. Through these activities we are able to ignite passions, ideas, talents and raise funds to maximize our efforts for habitat conservation.
Funds to support our habitat efforts are raised though our Hides for Habitat program, Annual State Habitat Banquet, donations received from members, sponsors, and partner organizations and through chapter events and fundraisers.
MDHA has numerous programs, grants, and partnerships to carry out our habitat mission including our Conservation Seed and Apple Tree Programs.
These programs are a perk for our members that allow them to purchase conservation seed and various species of apple trees for planting at a reduced cost.
Members are notified in January announcing the programs and details regarding ordering options for the upcoming spring and can contact their local chapter for more information on participating in this habitat promoting program.
Once the local chapter receives their seed and trees (April for seed/May for trees) they will notify members of a local distribution date to pick-up and purchase their orders.
Mark your calendars to participate in these great programs this year!
FUNDS RAISED FOR HABITAT IN MINNESOTA STAY IN MINNESOTA!
APPLE TREE PROGRAM
In 2019 MDHA added the Conservation Apple Tree Program as a new benefit for members. Apple trees are offered to members at a discount for the sole purpose to be planted for wildlife habitat. The apple tree variates are for northern Minnesota growing zones and most are University of Minnesota varieties or from Canada. Apple trees are five-foot bare root and most are in the five to eight foot range. The statewide kickoff of this program was a huge success with 1,500 apple trees purchased by members!
CONSERVATION SEED PROGRAM
Each year MDHA offers a Conservation Seed Program to its members. This program is designed to help you, our members, get seed at a discounted rate for planting on your properties to establish and maintain food plots to benefit whitetail deer and your hunting. The seed is discounted by partner seed companies as they can no longer sell it for retail. Its sole purpose is to be planted for wildlife habitat and cannot be sold for profit or used for fundraising. MDHA members are offered the opportunity to purchase seed through their local chapters to promote quality habitat. In 2019 MDHA members made a huge impact on habitat for wildlife by planting: 2,430 bags of soybeans on 2,400 acres of land; 1,100 bags of corn on 3,630 acres of land; and 150 bags of sunflower seeds on 450 acres of land.
